Picture from 1952

Thanks to George Timmis for this photograph of his hut in April / May 1952.

George says "I am on the end of the middle row on the left, John Shaw on the back row on the right and Pete Wearne third one in from the right on the back row. I think the Cpls name was Hamer and on the left of him is Brian Darkes."

Since this photograph was posted, John Rogan 4095617, has been in touch. He says "I can identify a couple more Erks in the 1952 hut photograph posted by George Timmis. Can't remember the hut number, but we were 5 Flight 1 Wing with Cpl Hamer. I am on his left wearing a unshrunk pancake. Next to John Shaw is George Rutter? who was an ex miner and in front of him, middle row 2nd in is Eric ? an ex sailor. I later caught up with John Shaw (a talented mimic) at RAF Box, I stopped there one night with a GCA radar trailer, where he was the most feared Snowdrop on that camp. Back row, two in from right is I think Ticehurst.
Incredible that after 54 years I can still recognise every face and even 'hear' their accents but the names have been washed away by too much beer! We had a little Scottish sergeant, the prototype I swear for Mackie in Porridge, who was due to retire at the end of our 8 weeks. Great to see the pictures. Nice one George, "Outside, Five Flight!"
